Biography

Jim Baroody is a Distinguished Lecturer in the Management Information Systems Department in the College of Business at RIT. Dr. Baroody is Chair of the MIS Advisory Board and Chair of the College of Business SAP Task Force. He holds a B.S. degree in mathematics and physics from the University of Richmond, an M.S. degree in physics from the College of William and Mary, and an M.S. and Ph.D. degree in computer sciences from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Prior to joining RIT, Dr. Baroody had an extensive career in computer systems design and development with the National Institute of Standards and Technology and the Xerox Corporation. An experienced software and systems designer and architect, Dr. Baroody has served in many roles including programmer, systems architect, systems engineer, product manager, project / program manager and marketing manager. Due to his strengths in seeing the �big picture�, his most frequent role has been tying business requirements together with the best selection of technologies and structuring the system solution into its major components and their interfaces.

His current research interests include information systems strategy, enterprise systems and organizational transition, database systems and service-oriented architectures.

Dr. Baroody is a member of the Association for Computing Machinery, the Institute for Electrical and Electronic Engineers and the International Council on Systems Engineering.

Research Interests & Research in Progress

  • Research focus is on linking business strategies and requirements with the most appropriate selection and implementation of technology. Current topics include information systems strategy and architecture, enterprise systems and organizational transition, workflow systems, database systems and service-oriented architectures.
